Bryan Taylor, Blackburn Fellow ‘97, is currently running for office in Alabama Senate District 30. He is hoping to become the first Blackburn Fellow to serve in the Alabama Legislature.
Bryan is a graduate of the University of Alabama and the University of Texas School of Law. Bryan attended Alabama on an Army ROTC scholarship and graduated with honors in 1998. He earned his law degree in 2001 from the University of Texas, where he founded the Texas Law Republicans. While in law school, Bryan worked as a law clerk in the office of then-Governor George W. Bush and volunteered on Governor Bush’s Presidential Exploratory Committee. He also served as legislative director for a member of the Texas House of Representatives.
For the past four years, Bryan has served as Policy Director and Legal Counsel to Governor Bob Riley, where he was a strong advocate for ethics reform and economic growth. Prior to joining the Riley Administration, Bryan was a U.S. Army captain and JAG prosecutor. He joined the active-duty Army after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Bryan was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service in Iraq. In 2004, he received the American Bar Association’s “Young Military Attorney of the Year” award. He also served a tour of duty in Honduras. Today, Bryan serves with the Alabama National Guard unit in charge of military support for Alabama communities during hurricanes.
Bryan is married to the former Jessica Fair, of Weaver, Alabama. Jessica is a project coordinator in the Governor’s Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives.
